MO Comprehensive School Counseling Program

Mt. Vernon RV School District's Counseling Program follows the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program.

Through this program, the school counselor will address specific needs of the students. In particular; social/emotional, academic, and career development are addressed with all students through curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support. Some of the services are provided to individual students while others may be provided indirectly or on behalf of a student. Referrals, consultation and collaboration with parents, teachers, or other educators made on behalf of a student would fall into the indirect student services category. Interactions between the counselor and student would fall in the Direct Student services category.

The components of this program fall into 4 different categories:

  • School Counseling Curriculum- This is the continuous presentation of lessons to achieve the required GLEs in the areas of social/emotional, academic and career development. This school counseling curriculum is to be taught alongside what teachers in the K-12 classrooms are teaching.

  • Individual Student Planning- This is the continuous presentation of activities for students to reach personal goals, transition through school and work to develop and achieve future plans.

  • Responsive Services- Responsive services are those services that meet immediate needs of students. This may include counseling in an individual capacity, small-group setting or with crisis response.

  • System Support- System support is the management and assessment of lesson plans and activities and services needed to support a district or building comprehensive school counseling program.
